remains in effect. mike is at the scene of the latest search for this missing boy. >> reporter: police won't say what led them here. it's a trail head. they looked at an area along i- 270. it comes as the suspect in the case faces a judge. he'll head back to maryland to face charges that he murdered his estranged wife. what police really want to know is whether he can guide them to her son, 11-year-old william who hasn't been seen since his mom found was stabbed and beaten in her condo. she spoke to lopez after the murder, a conversation that now gives her chills. >> he come up and said how are you? we got to talking about he was

going back to new jersey and i don't know, the hair on the back of my neck went woop. >> reporter: investigators searched two parks but again found nothing. >> the hope is that he's still alive. however, we are using teams and people experienced when the person is deceased. >> reporter: police arrested lopez in north carolina. he refuses to answer questions about the missing boy. according to new court records, police found another woman driving mcclain's suv and found his credit card and a box cutter in the hotel where they arrested lopez. they found 18 copies of their marriage certificate. he had a violent past. >> why a common person, i mean common, could do something

like that, i'll never know. >> reporter: there were at 20 police officers involved in today's search. they plan to continue searching until they find him. reporting live in montgomery county for wjz eyewitness news. >> thank you, mike. lopez has not been charged in connection with william's disappearance. a missing baltimore teenager is found dead. the body of ryan jackson was found saturday? the 5500 block of pennington avenue. family members contacted police after they say they found blood in a a residence in the 700 block of rambo court and that's where jackson was last seen. >> we noticed there was a lot of blood in that particular house. i had called the officers to find out, in fact, that was my son's blood or whatever's blood.

i just needed to find out whose blood it was. >> police have ruled the death a homicide. there have been no arrests in the case. staying behind bars, a man detained in the aruba disappearance of a maryland woman will not go free. >> reporter: today lawyers argued authorities don't have enough evidence to continue to hold the 55-year-old man, but court did not agree. he was arrested on august 5th, three days after his traveling companion was last seen on the island. he's maintained that gardener never resurfaced while the two were out snorkeling. authorities don't buy his story and point to an insurance policy he took out on gardener just days before their trip. the next time his release can be reviewed is in 60 days. >> on friday, he hired a new attorney who represented two aruban security guards accused

in the natalie holloway case. redraw the state's congressional districts. the proposed map would have major changes for some communities, especially when it comes to minority representation. governor omalley is getting a jump on a job's creation plan. we have what her administration is planning. >> reporter: the governor is using the special session as an effort to draw consensus, so lawmakers can come back and pass some things including a gas tax increase that may raise some eyebrows. >> the governor's commission is recommending a gas tax increase of 15-cents a gallon. >> i think all of us need to consider it. i'm considering it. >> reporter: asking the general assembly to start work now on a plan to create jobs which he says requires taxpayer investments this state projects that put people to work. >> we have to figure out if

we're willing to pay another penny in order to bring those things about or another nickel or another dime or as his commission is recommending, another 15-cents. >> reporter: the outrage over recent bridge and toll increases will be like comparing a flee to an elephant when voters get a load of what's coming in 2012. >> no matter how much you talk about it, it's a quality of life issue, it's an economic issue. people do not like a gas tax. >> reporter: critics including nancy jacobs says it comes as no surprise. >> he doesn't have to please the people of maryland. the people of maryland would wish he'd start looking at what's good for maryland, but he's more interested in the political stage in washington, d.c. >> reporter: the democratic leadership sees it differently. >> we're supposed to be serving the people and we are. any way we can alleviate their

as they take down the houston texans. the ravens defense wasn't what you would call dominant, but they did enough to stuff the texans and slow down a houston attack. as far as the ravens offense, joe flacco wasn't speck tar lar, but he came through when needed twice connecting on long tosses. on the ground, ray rice didn't do much in the first half but found his stride in the second half. rice ended up with 100 yards and that long run by rice set up rickey williams' first touchdown as a raven. >> this is the kind of game that we needed. we needed to be in a fight against a good team. offensively this team can put up problems. >> for us to get a victory up under our belt, i think it was huge for us. now we have to move on. we have a long week. we have jacksonville coming up.

game against the jaguars live right here. our coverage kicks off at 8:00 p.m. following breaking news. we're live over carol park golf course on washington boulevard in the city where there are reports of a water rescue this progress. what do you have for us? >> we have very little right now. fire personnel 20 minutes ago received a call at the falls for a person that possibly fell and struck their head and fell into the water. now, fire personnel have been here searching. they requested a dive team. they found absolutely no one so far. state police medivac helicopter was here, and now the city police fox trot helicopter is here. they're searching between the railroad bridge and carol park golf course, but so far nothing found. >> thank you very much. the bright sun capping off a nice monday weather wise after some morning clouds moved away. the sun made its return for much of the day, but could

gloomy weather be in our near future? we have the answers for you. >> the sun is setting now, so we can't see that much of it, but it was a beautiful afternoon. there's a weak front down to the south, gave us some clouds this afternoon and this evening. we have to open up to see where the rain will be coming from. two areas of rain generally moving in our direction. it looks like we'll see some rain, could be quite a bit of rain in some areas on wednesday. after that, things begin to change again. we have a look at the end of the week and mid-week pattern. >> as bob was saying, those two storms are going to come together. the clouds start to come in during the day tomorrow. tomorrow night and wednesday we really start to see the rain. the center of the storm moves off to our northeast. the weather pattern it willing it, it keeps it cool and unsettled. we do have some improvements

after thursday. we'll have all of it in your forecast coming up. >> thank you. an angry anniversary, one month of protest for the occupy wall street movement. the demonstrations have gone global. >> honest people. >> reporter: occupy wall street demonstrators didn't pack much of a punch at this lunchtime rally, but a month into the movement, hundreds are vowing to keep up the cause. >> we're patriotic americans who love our country. >> reporter: tommy fox has been here every day for weeks. >> i got three kids and i'm very concerned that, you know, they're going to have a future incomberred by debt. debt is a kind of servitude. >> reporter: the protesters message about economic inequality is striking a cord. supporters have donated $300,000 to the cause both on the web and in person at the manhattan park where protesters

are camped out. in cities across the u.s. and now around the world, other demonstrations have popped up. demonstrators set up camp in london outside st. paul's cathedral. office workers wonder what they're hoping to achieve. >> it's one thing to say the system doesn't work, but i don't hear any alternatives being proposed. >> we are the 99%. >> reporter: protesters in new york say they've scored an important victory. >> here at home, occupy baltimore took place with hundreds camping out in the inner harbor. it makes us sick. >> banished to a boiler room. who police found chained and locked away inside a philadelphia basement. saying good-bye to patricia

rest. >> her family, friends, and members of the ravens organization both past and present mourned her death at a funeral mass. her casket was adorned by her favorite flowering one she was named after. she was remembered by those who loved her -- her two sons david and john, her husband art model and players who she had a very special relationship. ray lewis told us for him it was like losing a mom. >> she would always grab my face, grab my checks. that's momma. that's momma, man. even when you find yourself in tough times, they were always there, to lend you a hand. everything they ever done for me. >> it's good for a couple of us to be here. >> reporter: she was remembered during sunday's ravens game. >> all of us join in with the fans and the management of the baltimore ravens in expressing

our condolences and sympathies to art model on the loss of his wife patricia. >> reporter: today the players remembered how she touched them. >> charming, devastatingly beautiful, smart. had a lot of opinions about football. she was always right. just a great lady. and it's a sad moment, but also a celebration of her life. >> reporter: she was an accomplished actress and a long- time benefactor of the arts. her legacy and her name now grace the lyric opera house. >> she worked so hard with us on our summer camp this year. we were able to bring students from all over the area. she'll be missed. >> reporter: mrs. model died last week after being hospitalized for five months. >> she was 80 years old. a sad statement tonight from a long-time baltimore news man. >> i was diagnosed on friday

with pancreatic cancer, stage 4. metalist sized. it's inoperable but treatable and i certainly didn't want to try to keep it a secret. too many people knew about it already. i owed it to my audience to be honest with them. >> ron smith says he'll keep his listeners updated on his health, but he does not plan to regularly talk about it. he's already received hundreds of e-mails wishing him well. cameras are monitoring drivers in school zones. the county is the latest to add speed cameras to their force. >> reporter: police here in howard county conducted speed studies in every school zone and they determined that putting cameras in these areas would slow lead-footed drivers. school is out and it's a race to get home. in an effort to put brakes on speeders, howard county police

are adding cameras to 100 school zones. >> it all goes back to public safety. getting people slowed down is important to us. >> reporter: drivers caught going 12 miles over the speed limit will be issued a warning. after a 30-day warning period, drivers caught going over the speed limit again will be issued a $40 fine. >> i've seen many of parents and non-parents speeding by the school. i think it's great. >> reporter: the county now has two mobile cameras that will bounce between locations. a list of roads scheduled to be enforced will be posted online. eventually, chief mcmann hopes to add six additional cameras to monitor traffic. >> we didn't jump right into this. we took the last year to study the speed problem here in howard county to make sure that speed cameras could be part of the solution. >> reporter: all of the money

a live lookout side right now. look at that beautiful sunset. >> wow. >> what can we expect the rest of the week? >> gorgeous. >> it was a gorgeous afternoon. beautiful sun, nice breeze, nice bunch of folks said hi. let's look at conditions around the region with just a few high clouds moving in. 57 out in oakland and 64 in ocean city. we're at 67 now. our high got up to 72 right now the dew point quite low at 48.

tomorrow, the dew point will be coming up. more moisture will be moving in and we'll cloud over by tomorrow night and maybe by midnight we might see some rain in the region. 70 in belair and mid to upper 60s out to the west of us. winds are shifting more to the south. tomorrow they're come more southeast and that will bring in that good old atlantic moisture and down in the south a lot of rain in south florida, some areas picking up 2, 3, 4, 5 inches. in key west they had over 6 inches of rain. it's sort of like a tropical system, but it's not a tropical storm or depression. it's an old front that stalled out down there and there's a lot of moisture sand it's moving to the north. eventually that rain should move into our region. rain area over the midwest is moving off to the east. between these two systems,

heading up to the east coast, we'll see rain on wednesday. pretty much looks like an all- day event. it may rain heavily in the morning and some showers in the afternoon because it's pretty quick moving. it will be quite cool thursday, friday, and into the weekend and next week. but it should be generally dry. thursday may have a left over shower. for the most part, the bulk of the rain will be coming on wednesday. plan for that in your plan for the week. southeast winds coming on the bay at 5-10. sunrise 7:19. sets 6:24. it just set about 30 seconds ago. and 52, clear to partly cloudy. tomorrow, we'll see clouds and sunshine with the clouds increasing. 72 with rain late, late, late tomorrow night. it looks like a wet drive to work on wednesday morning.

that's probably the rainiest part of the day will be in the morning on wednesday. >> thank you, bob. giving special children the help they need. after two years of planning, the cool kids campaign is ready to tutor young students living with cancer. >> reporter: the cool kids campaign is set to open the door to learning. about 600 children are diagnosed with cancer in maryland and many of them struggle in school. the campaign offers free one on one tutoring. >> the chemo causes a lot of delays. even when they're in school, it's much harder for them to process the information. >> reporter: the new county location already offers cancer- related social programs like teen movie night. the organization started six years ago providing care packages to sick children nationwide.

quality tutoring is the next step. >> reporter: we have two or three kids getting ready to come in. the volunteer aspect has been tremendous. >> i hope to make it fun for them and i hope they can come in and be eager to learn. >> reporter: making it easier to learn in newly decorated spaces. it's deck erraticated to a 13- year-old girl who participated with cool kids and died of brain cancer last year. helping children with cancer live like normal, cool kids. >> and the cool kids campaign will begin seeing its first students in a couple of weeks. >> a service that's much needed. still to come tonight on eyewitness news. >> he was a great ambassador of the sport and honestly he's one of the nicest guys i've ever met. >> a fiery crash kills an indy car star.

it is 6:30, 67 degrees, with a few high clouds. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. racing fans are reeling. a fiery crash at an indy car race kills a beloved driver. one day later people are questioning the safety of the las vegas track. >> a huge crash. >> reporter: dan wheldon's car went airborne and slammed into a fence. emergency crews rushed the 33- year-old driver to a local hospital where he later died. speeds at the indy 300 exceed 220 miles an hour. >> you're able to sustain that speed and build momentum. you have then the fact that they run three or four wide and

the domino effect when the track got blocked. >> reporter: drivers were concerned about high speeds at the speedway. we all had a bad feeling about this place, in particular because of the high banking and how easy it was to go flat. we knew it could happen, but it's just really sad. five-time winner jimmie johnson was part of the crash but is okay. wheldon's father spoke outside his home. >> he was born to be a racer and yesterday left us doing what he loves to do. >> reporter: news spread quickly. he won the indianapolis 500 two times. fans created a memorial outside the gate. >> he was a great ambassador of the sport and was one of the nicest guys i've ever met. >> he was genuinely down to

earth all the time. >> reporter: he leaves behind a wife and two small children. >> he was in baltimore congressmen commentating but did not race this that event. the person has been identified as 23-year-old emily house. her body was found sunday in the park charles in the 200 block of north charles street. there are no signs of foul play. in august 2010 a man died after falling down the trash chute of the same high-rise. how could anyone treat human beings like this? philadelphia police discover four disabled adults locked away this a basement. >> reporter: dozens of pieces of identification and power of attorney documents have been discovered that point to a wide-

ranging scheme. officers investigating a report of squatters in the building found three men and a woman in a 15 by 15 room. two of the victims have been missing while another is from north carolina. three people have been arrested and accused of holding the people captive and stealing their social security checks. >> we do know it's a horrible, horrible crime. we're glad we found these people when we did because they deserved a lot better than this. >> the victims who have the mental capacity of 10 year olds suffered bed sores and mall nourishment. >> detectives have been able to make contact of three of the four victims. questions raised about a prisoner swap in the middle east. free more than 100 inmates in exchange for one captured

israeli soldier. those opposed argue israel is surrendering to terrorism. cancer scares. most doctors recommend annual mammograms for many women. there's new information about the results of those tests. we have more in tonight's health watch. >> reporter: a breast cancer survivor. >> i was going every year and they found something on that mammogram. >> reporter: she says her annual screenings helped catch the disease early, but getting screened every year can also have a downside. according to a new study, more than half of women who get annual mammograms will get false positive results at least once in 10 years and as many as 9% of those women will have an

unnecessary biopsy. >> i think most women would rather suffer with a little bit of anxiety than a cancer that's caught later. >> reporter: still recommend all women have an annual mammogram starting at the age of 40. >> small percentage of women will have later stage cancer detected if they wait every other year. >> reporter: 61-year-old fran lavine still gets an annual mammogram. she feels in her case the test saved her life. >> i had anxiety until my biopsy came back and then i had even more anxiety. i think it's part of the process we have to go through in order to protect ourselves. >> reporter: it's been 15 years and she's still cancer free. >> and experts say you should bring your previous mammograms with you each year to reduce the chances of you being called

the fans sports report and a lot of exciting moments in that game yesterday. >> foot billion is an intense game and it includes the coach. the harbaugh brothers both have their teams in first place. a big surprise for jim who was the rookie head coach of the san francisco 49ers and he's making quite an impact in his first season on the nfl sidelines and that impact rubbed another coach the wrong way in detroit. greeted him with that over zealous hand slap. that got under schwartz's skin. the players and assistants gathered in a post-game melee.

john harbaugh had his share of fights with his brother growing up. he stands by his brother on this issue. >> i can tell you this, i think i know who was right. whoever was right or wrong, i know whose side i'm on. i'm definitely taking sides. same side i've always taken. >> i was just really revved up. i shook his hand too hard and i really went in with a strong, you know, kind of a slap-grab handshake. >> obviously you win a game like that you're excited and things like that. i think there's a protocol that goes with this league. >> don't we have enough controversy? >> he's happy with and concerned about the play of qb flacco. he absorbed so many hard hits in that win over houston.

we'll have more from the coach coming up at 11:00. the next game is one week from tonight at jacksonville. again, you can see right here on wjz. our coverage comes your way at 8:00. saints head coach shawn peyton had surgery today on his left knee after he suffered a serious injury on the sideline yesterday. he was run over at the end of the play by his own player. doctors had to repair a torn ligament and a broken bone in the knee. peyton stayed on the sideline if a cast to coach the rest of the game. he'll have to coach games from the booth and not the field for the fear future. the orioles have received permission to meet with at least potential candidates so far. the long season has been pared down to two teams.
